For over 20 years, several key businesses such as the Ginning Factory and Spinning Mills have operated in Tiruppur, playing a major role in the town’s industrial development. These industries provided numerous employment opportunities for the local people.
One such company was A & F HARVEY, which played a key role in establishing these industries and was among the first to bring the spinning industry to Tiruppur. It was the foundation for many of today’s well-established spinning mills.
The agents of A & F HARVEY, known as Harvey Dealers, were appointed to purchase cotton from the farmers and sell it to spinning mills.
Among these dealers, Thiru. Kumarasamy Gounder worked for a long period as an agent of A & F HARVEY and earned significant income. Because of his service and success, he came to be respectfully known as “Harvey Kumarasamy Ayya.”
With the income he earned, he not only engaged in business but also did many charitable activities. To assist in these efforts, the Harvey Dealers came together and decided to honor his name by establishing the "Harvey Kumarasamy Kalyana Mandapam Trust." This Kalyana Mandapam (marriage hall) was built and inaugurated in 1955, and it served the public from then on. The income from the hall was also used for charitable purposes.
This marriage hall was later registered as a Registered Trust. The trust continues to be known as “Harvey Kumarasamy Kalyana Mandapam Trust” and is currently managed by appointed Trustees.
